 "Great coffee pot!" 2010-05-17
By Karen R. Olivier (Arnaudville, LA USA)
I ordered this coffee pot to replace a 12 cup Cuisinart which was too tall to fit under my cabinets. Had to keep it on the kitchen desk. This time I checked the height and it was perfect. I knew it would make good coffee. Love the thermal carafe. Keeps coffee hot all day.

 "Died after 32 days..." 2010-05-17
By V. Cook
I am a coffee addict. I admit it. So I love my coffeemaker, normally.

And I did love this one.

For 32 days.

And then it died overnight. The clock went out, the buttons stopped working, it would not respond to my desperate, early morning pleas to brew coffee. Tried different electric plugs, etc. just to be sure. Nope, officially dead.

(Note that 32 days is 2 days after I could still return it to Amazon without a hassle. So, tomorrow, I'm likely going to spend hours on the phone with Cuisinart trying to get them to replace it.....)

I've generally been happy with Cuisinart products so I hope this is just a fluke, but don't say I didn't warn you if history repeats itself.

 "Love this coffemaker!!" 2010-05-11
By C. Van dalen (no. California)
It's the best I've had. I can set it up the night before. I don't have to worry about whether or not I've shut it off when I leave th house because it shuts off right after it brews. The coffee stays warm in the special carafe for quite a while. I love that it has the water filter because it makes the coffee taste better. I love it!!

 "PERFECT IN EVERY WAY" 2010-05-10
By R. J. S. Miles (Northern Michigan)
This coffee maker is wonderful. It's easy to use and makes great coffee. The thermal carafe seals itself after pouring and keeps our coffee warm/hot for up to 20 hours without evaporation or wasting.I HIGHLY recommend this one.

 "Great Brew" 2010-05-02
By Admin (Portage, MI)
Tired of broken carafes, I orderd this coffee maker and have used it over 2 weeks. Love it. Hot, fast and good. Came with the filter insert. I fill the carafe with hot water and let it pre-warm while I fill the coffee maker with cold water and coffee. Dump out the carafe, set it and go. By the time I make toast the coffee is done. Stays hot as long as I want it to. I'm very pleased.

"Mine is close to 5 years old and working perfectly!" 2010-05-15
By Lillea Woodlyns (BC, Canada)
I've had this machine for close to 5 years. It's excellent.

I had to special order it back then, and it was well worth it.

I've processed various doughs in it - fairly tough doughs that

contain nuts that usually make other processors stall or burn out quite

quickly.

Back when I made my own bread (I've had to drop gluten from my diet

since that time) I kneaded bread dough with this processor and it

did a very good job. Kneading by hand was rough on my shoulders

and wrists, so it was such a relief to use this machine instead.

This size is Cuisinart's largest, which surprises me. I don't

process huge amounts of ingredients at a time, yet I know that having a smaller

machine would be frustrating for me.

It's a beautiful looking unit, too. I like to display it on my

countertop.

 "Very Happy" 2010-05-14
By S. Dennick (Tampa, FL United States)
I had the DLC-7 Cuisinart for at least 35 years, probably longer, but recently decided to get a new one. I donated the DLC-7 to one of the charities and I think someone else will be able to use it for years to come. I thought I would purchase another brand, but after extensive research decided to stay with the upgraded Cuisinart model, especially since I have the DLC-7 complete 9 disc set. I was delighted when it arrived to see that the detachable stem for the DFP14BCN is identical to the one that came with the 9-piece set - DLC-7 is stamped on the stem - so I will be able to use all the old blades. This model is almost identical to my old one, so I shouldn't have any trouble working with it. I could have gotten it for about the same price at BBB with a 20% coupon, but with the Amazon Store Card will be able to spread payments over 6 months. Look forward to using it for years to come.

 "What a Workhorse" 2010-04-11
By Rachel Whelton (New Hampshire)
I chose this model after reading several other reviews and trying to avoid any problems while also minimizing my cost, or at least keeping it reasonable. I am so happy with my choice and really glad I relied on those reviews.

At first I was considering getting a smaller model like the 7 cup or the 9 cup. So glad I didn't do that. What convinced me was reading somewhere that the smaller ones have a smaller motor, less power, and/or no dough option. What I see now is that the cup size isn't as big as it sounds. It doesn't look like 14 cups. Maybe you can stuff 14 cups of sliced strawberries in there but for practical use that isn't precise. For example there is a "max liquid" line below the halfway point on the bowl. Just making simple pizza sauce for our family pizza night easily reached that max line. I can see now that making several batches of anything would be less convenient. Even opening the bowl or adding foods seems time consuming now that I am getting accustomed to the light speed of preparation this machine provides. I wanted to make sure to get one that was large enough to do the job it's supposed to do.

Long ago I had a Kitchenaid food processor with the more rounded base design. I didn't like how the bowl locked onto the base. Eventually a piece of the bowl broke and instead of getting a new bowl, I became frustrated and threw the whole thing out. Comparing my new Cuisinart to that Kitchenaid, I would say I prefer the Cuisinart because it has a more industrial or professional feel to it. I like the square base. I like the sheer power of the motor. Certainly the way the bowl has to lock in place before the motor will engage is significant in both models. It took me half an hour to figure out how to click it in place. It takes force and also touch. It also took me a while to figure out the tube feeder is opposite the handle when it is in the closed/working position. But now that I understand exactly how it works, I like it.

When I ordered on amazon, it appeared to me as if there was a choice of colors between brushed steel or black chrome. When mine arrived, I thought I had gotten the wrong color because I had clicked on brushed steel but mine was clearly the black chrome model. Apparently there is only one if I am now reading this correctly. It has metal and black plastic on the base. I guess I don't mind, but I might have preferred the all steel looking one or a white one. Not sure if they came in this model number and after using the machine, I don't think the color matters to me so much anymore.

Overall I would like to say that this is an incredibly useful machine! I worried that I wouldn't know how to use it often enough. Many years ago when I had the Kitchenaid food processor, it was just one more gadget that I didn't have time to care about. Now that I am older, a mother, and cooking at home much more, I am a different person in the kitchen. I understand cooking more and I go to the food processor much more instinctively. It is much easier now to read a "regular" recipe (not specifically mentioning any use of a food processor) and use the Cuisinart anyway. This morning I made crepe batter in it where I used to use a spoon or my immersion blender. This afternoon I chopped a bell pepper where I used to always use a knife. My husband asked if I needed a cookbook of "food processor recipes" but I think that's just silly. You can cook whatever you want to cook and still use this for lots of the chopping and mixing. The special things it can do beyond that are icing on the cake.

Speaking of special skills, the dough making is ridiculously impressive. Pie dough, pizza dough, puff pastry, biscuit dough... never again will I have to touch butter and flour with my hands. You just jump ahead to a wonderful ball of dough and proceed to the flour and roll out phases.

Also you can learn new things. At least for me, this is a new ability to do things like emulsify or puree. I make sauces now, because it's no big deal to work out a sauce after I've already used the machine anyway to chop or slice. I used to never bust out the blender because why clean it just for a sauce? The food processor is another world from my blender.

I use all the pieces and will consider the specialty blades. I love the dough cutter, which is a plastic piece short enough to assist with the ball of dough forming around the edge of the bowl. I love the super sharp chopper blade, which reaches to the edge of the bowl and can do different cuts based on how you pulse it or keep it running. It chopped almonds, then can make the pieces small enough to be like a flour, then can keep going to paste if you wish. I love the slicer blade, which can slice things so beautifully including so many more things than just the potatoes I had in mind. I love the grater too. That's all that I have but I'd like to order the julienne and the thin slicer blades sometime.

It was delivered quickly. It came in a box (white with color photos and styrofoam packing), which was inside another box (cardboard and saying cuisinart on it), which was inside a larger box (cardboard saying amazon on it). I was skeptical about why it was not more expensive. I believe this is an older model but I'm not sure. I guess the Cuisinart company pushes the newer models at higher prices.

The dvd that it comes with is helpful yet dated. It says 2004 on it. The chefs seem to be somewhat old school, like television cooks before the age of Food Network. Still, the recipes they demonstrate show the machine at work, which is impressive. It did not come with a printed manual. I had to go look for it on the Cuisinart website. It wasn't extremely helpful. But they do have customer service. I figured out how to get the machine going before calling to admit I had no idea how to do it.

I would wish this wonderful machine on any home cook! It's a joy to use once you become familiar with it. Unlike my Kitchenaid Stand Mixer, this Cuisinart food processor will have the honor of staying out on the counter and not being put in the cupboard. I believe it is a widely useful tool and underrated for how fun it can be to use. I'm so glad I got the 14 cup size too, so that the machine can really do what it's supposed to do and not be overfilled or overworked.

 "Perfect pot" 2010-01-22

This was the exact replacement for my cuisinart pot - came in a cuisinart box and everything. It is absolutely perfect. I just wish it would have come sooner, instead of three weeks late.

 "Cuisinart replacement coffee carafe" 2009-11-15
By A. Kaiser (Campbell, CA USA)
It was exactly what I expected. However, this is the second one I have had to order in a year since I've owned this coffeemaker. I think the glass is a bit too thin, wish it was thicker or safety glass or something so it didn't break so easily.

Carafe was exactly like the original unit. Be careful when ordering replacements and get the correct model for the coffee maker you have. This fits the Cuisnart DGB-500 as advertised.

"SLEEK AND SLICK COFFEE BREWER" 2010-05-17
By Donald Kerr (Turtle Creek, Pa)
The Cuisinart DCC-2000 coffee brewer is a delightful, ergonomic device producing excellent cups of coffee on demand. The owner's manual is substantial, in English and Spanish, and not overbearing. This coffee brewer has the advantages of water filtration, gold long-lasting coffee-grind filter and indicator for when to engage the cleaning cycle. The brushed stainless steel finish is a pleasing sensuous addition to one's armamentarium of kitchen appliances. I've recommended this brewer to friends and family, and all have been enthralled with this remarkable and lovely machine from Cuisinart.

"Total Junk. High Price. Serious Design Flaws." 2010-05-15
By ZeeZee (USA)
One of the most expensive coffee makers we've owned, yet it's also one of the worst.

Read all of the reviews. Most of these will end up dying within a year or two. The coffee maker will fail to power up and will just stop working. If you're lucky, you can leave it unplugged after use and it might come back on after several plug-in attempts. Seems to have faulty power supplies or there is some reason that it's taking water damage inside. Not sure. It's hit-or-miss. Fortunately, it has a 3-year warranty. Cuisinart offered to replace ours two months ago and we're still waiting on the replacement. I just called them today and found that they haven't shipped it yet. We got a "It's packed up and will be shipping soon." They indicated originally that it's on back-order, so it sounds like they simply can't keep replacements in stock due to the RMAs.

At the very least, it makes coffee that tastes pretty good, which is the most important part. It's also just the right temperature.

Other cons: Annoying to clean, a pain to fill, and not good for filling tall travel mugs. The base is removable and it's just enough room to fill my mug each morning for the commute.

There could be worse products out there, but for its price and low-reliability reports I would not suggest that anyone buy this. I will probably replace it with a carafe model from another company when this replacement bites the dust.

 "DCC-2000 Problems" 2010-05-12
By JMCJR (Ohio)
I have used this pot for a little over a year, brews coffee fine, keeps it hot, however every time you lift the lid to clean the pot the lid leaks water down the back of the unit and all over the counter. Now one year later the electronics have gone bad, you have to unplug it from the outlet and plug it back in, then it works, so much for the auto timer. I have contacted the company and they are sending me a new coffee maker. But be prepared to wait 4 to 5 weeks they are on back order. This is not an unusual problem.

"Great, if you're looking for a disposable coffee maker" 2010-05-11
By TTO
This coffee maker was great for 1 year. Then the on/off switch stopped working and the entire machine stopped functioning. I haven't called for a replacement yet, because I'm not sure i even want another one, or if i should just move on to a new brand/model.

 "Plastic flavor" 2010-05-10
By Steven Barton
We are on our second unit. The first one lasted less than a year, when the electronics began to malfunction and the reservoir began to leak. Cuisinart replaced the unit with a new, slightly redesigned unit. The new machine shipped with the instruction to regularly decalcify the unit by running vinegar water though it.

We have a diabetic in the house who has difficulty seeing the small opening where you pour the water. If you are not careful, water can spill into the area around the coffee reservoir and run down into the collection tray (below where you set your cup). Not a big deal, but difficult for some.

Instead of brewing the coffee into a standard carafe, the unit merely stores the coffee in an internal reservoir with a heating element. Otherwise, it functions just like any other home coffee maker. Instead of pouring the coffee from a carafe, you simply dispense it into your cup.

Most tall on-the-go thermal coffee cups are too tall to fit in the dispensing area. Standard coffee mugs, even very large ones will fit, however.

The coffee reservoir is double-walled plastic with a metal disc at the bottom where it sits over the heating element. The coffee comes out very hot and the reservoir stays heated very hot. For me the biggest drawback with this machine is that the reservoir is plastic. After about a half hour or so of sitting in the reservoir the coffee starts to take on a plastic flavor. Given that the heating element keeps the coffee hot, the coffee can also start to taste burnt if not consumed right away. If you use all the coffee within 30 minutes you should be fine, and it does make a pretty good cup of coffee. Compared with coffee I make in the french press, coffee brewed in this Cuisinart unit is very decent.

The "12-cup" capacity in the description, of course, refers to a smaller cup of about 5 1/2 ounces. So the unit actually makes 8 US cups, or 64 oz.

 "Buyer Beware!" 2010-05-20
By S. Tragakis (Norfolk, MA USA)
I purchased the DCC-1200 a year ago. Up until the last month or two it worked GREAT! However, it is very unreliable - the on/off switch is CONSTANTLY turning itself off. It will turn itself off during the brewing cycle, and it turns itself off after the brewing cycle. If you don't watch the little red light constantly, you will find yourself with partially brewed coffee, cold coffee or both. I don't have time to watch the coffee maker all morning long...

I have contacted the company directly but have not heard back yet - I can update based on their customer service as well.

"Agree with Design Flaws Aplenty" 2010-05-19
By B. Biller (Sudbury, MA United States)
I hate my coffee maker so I decided to check Consumer Reports and find the best coffee maker available. Imagine my surprise when MY coffee pot was best rated! So endeth my confidence in Consumer Reports AND therein lies my need to write about this coffee maker.

Agree that the coffee is good. Thus two stars.

I hate not having a gauge for the water reservoir that is visible from the front. My coffee pot sits on a counter and the reservoir is accessed from a hinged lid at the back. When you lift it, there are these little steps that you bring the water level up to to meet your desired amount of end product. Well, I'm the only one who drinks coffee on weekdays and the "4" step is so far down you can't see it!!!! So I have had to adjust to measuring my coffee in a cup measurer and pouring it in, and, like Design Flaws, I find it doesn't always go into the area I'm trying to our into.

This past weekend I wanted to make a full pot, as we had company for the first time since buying the item. I do not like the gold filters so I used paper. The filter was about half full but because the cone is a bit on the small side and the water couldn't filter fast enough. It began to back up and I had to turn off the machine while it coffee in the filter drained into the carafe. I was glad I was standing nearby to see this!!!!

I think I liked my $19 Mr Coffee coffee maker from KMart better than this one. I'm going to liberate it from my office and return it to it's former honored spot in my kitchen.

"Great design and brew but eventual electrical failure" 2010-05-19
By John D (Boston, MA USA)
The design and function of this coffeemaker is exceptional, typical of Cuisinart products. Also typical of Cuisinart products, it doesn't last. After three years the electronics went on the blink and soon would not power on at all. Cuisinart customer service did not respond to my plea for help--also typical of Cuisinart.

 "just in time" 2010-05-17
By tbear (santa fe, nm)
I usually fire up the cappucino machine in the morning, but I find myself using the automatic timer on the coffee machine instead. I love waking up to HOT brewed coffee--the coffee tastes clean and strong--I'm very happpy with my machine and it's great for entertaining.

"Did not like the taste of the coffee" 2010-05-17
By D. Mogge (illinois)
I did not like the flavor of the coffee this coffee maker made. It was odd tasting, somewhat bitter and just old. My coffee was fresh, I had just ground it.

I was not please with this product at all.

 "flimsy, brittle work bowls" 2010-02-28
By F. Harvey (Norfolk, VA)
I've used Cuisinart processors for probably 30 years, but unfortunately the quality has gone to hell. I purchased one about 2 years ago, and even though I have used this one infrequently, usually just for grating cabbage for slaw or for making mayonnaise and aioli and only occasionally for slicing potatoes, the bowl is already cracked. The company that now makes Cuisinart is the old Ronco manufacturer. Apparently to bolster their corporate bottom line they have taken steps to cheapen the product and diminish its quality. And to add insult to injury, replacing the bowl, lid, chute and pusher--just the Lexan pieces--will cost you about $100, not significantly less than the cost of a whole new food processor. It's a shame, really, because I've read that the processors made by Kitchen Aide slosh liquids like oil and purees out of the bowl. So the bottom line seems to be that in the USA there are no high-quality, well-designed food processors being made. Kind of sucks, really.

"Designed Looking Thru a Mirror" 2010-02-16
By BBQ LRF (Portland, OR)
What is it with food processors that no one can design a unit without a serious flaw? The feed slot and interlock mechanism are on the rear of the unit and the bowl handle and controls are on the front. Like the engineer could not decide if he was coming or going. Maybe they bench tested it with two operators? Also, you better place your unit within 12" of the outlet as the cord is ridiculously short. The cusinart bowl still has the same, easily broken, interlocks that my old unit had.

 "Makes Life Easier" 2010-02-08
By JRI (Redmond WA USA)
I bought this product to speed-up the dinner process, particularly salads. It has worked very well. The biggest problem was in learning how to assemble the system; that is, learning which direction each piece turns to snap into place. That was a very minor inconvenience that was eliminated after using the device a few times. (It is explained in the instructions, but who likes to review instructions every time.) As they say, practice makes perfect.

The device is solid and doesn't move around when in use. The noise is at an acceptable level.

I very much like the ease of cleaning the device. After each use I spray and rinse with water and throw the parts in the dishwasher. My part of cleanup takes about fifteen seconds.

I would recommend getting a blade storage device with this product. The blades are VERY sharp. You do not want to be fumbling around in a drawer for them. I chose the Blade and Disk Holder which holds the parts nicely. Cuisinart Blade and Disc Holder I would recommend this product to others.

"After a few times, it no longer works." 2009-12-27
By W. Colleran
I used it twice with no problem, but the next time, the white tab on the cover which pushes down a white piece in the side of the bowl did not depress it enough to start the motor. Since I do not use the processor frequently, I did not make this discovery until a few days ago...several months after the purchase. I will attempt to contact Cuisinart to arrange a replacement.

 "Great basic food processor" 2009-12-08
By Celia (Chicago Area)
This is an older, very basic Cuisinart model. I have owned this model for some years and just purchased the same model as a replacement. I did a lot of research, including checking out the new Cuisinart Elite line. I ultimately concluded that the Pro Custom best met my needs. The greatest feature is the additional, flat top. No other food processor out there seems to have one. If most of your processing is mixing or chopping, you don't need the large feed tube. The flat top takes up minimal room in the dishwasher and is a snap to clean by hand. In contrast, the Elite bowl(s) and lid took up most of the top shelf of my dishwasher, and even then it was a struggle to get them to fit. A number of reviews of that model also note that it is difficult to clean the gasket that seals the top, by hand or in the dishwasher. I returned the Elite and bought the ProCustom -- which, I might add, cost more than $100 less.

 "Love this machine" 2010-05-18
By Bob Penny
I bought this coffee maker/grinder to replace a much beloved Melitta version which had finally given up the ghost. Didnt think I'd like it at all, since it appeared it would be more difficult to keep clean, the coffee couldnt have tasted as good, and the fact that I loved my previous Melitta so much. However, I am very happy to say that I was/am very wrong in my prejudgement. This machine makes wonderfull coffee (I use beans from Costco) and is a charm to clean up. I look upon my coffee maker as an integral part of my life, almost as if it's a friend. Perculiar yeah, but this baby just fits like it's an old shoe.

We had one of these for ourselves but my two boys needed a coffee maker and we ended up purchasing 2 more. Get the one with the metal carafe, it keeps the coffee hot for hours without the constant heating and reheating. It isn't too bad to clean the grinder, especially for me....I let hubby do it.

 "Phenomenal coffee" 2010-05-11

It's perfect. Just what we wanted at a price we could afford. We're experimenting with coffees from all over the world. The grinder to pot makes this easy to clean. The filter really improves the taste.

I am a bit of a coffee snob- I admit it - but I love this coffeemaker! Love the design and ease.

"OK Product for Price Range" 2010-05-03

Purchased the Cuisinart DGB-650BC Grind & Brew as a replacement. It is a good coffeemaker for the price. Would be happier if the thermal pot could keep the coffee warmer. The downside is that the grinder section (black and white unit) of the coffeemaker needs to be cleaned daily.
